Arizona Border Land A 'War Zone'

BISBEE, Ariz. — The frustration is palpable. It’s on the faces of ranchers who work within arm’s reach of loaded rifles for their own safety, and who shake their heads when they talk about the effectiveness of the U.S. Border Patrol.

Some of them work in fear after a rancher was shot to death on his property in March by a suspected illegal immigrant.

The problem is visible: hidden cameras show hundreds of people streaming through the desert on a regular basis. Some carry what police say are 80-pound bundles of marijuana; others are young males and females looking for a better life.

The next day, piles of water bottles and backpacks litter the ranches in spots where they stopped to rest. On Monday, May 25, the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office picked up yet another dead body just two miles from the border...

California College Offers Scholarship To Illegal Immigrants

A public community college in California has set up a scholarship fund for immigrant students — including illegal immigrants. The $2,500 scholarship has sparked anger by some, including at least one lawmaker who is threatening to cut off federal funding to the school.

Orange County's Santa Ana College says the controversial new memorial scholarship will be funded by private donations and honors former student Tan Ngoc Tran, a student leader and immigrant-rights activist who transferred to Brown University before she was killed by a drunk driver on May 15.

Students eligible for the new scholarship must have a 3.0 or higher grade point average, demonstrate a financial need and must also be trying to become an American citizen. Those eligible include students holding green cards, students who have permanent residency — and illegal, undocumented immigrants.

The scholarship was announced by the Santa Ana College Foundation at an informal memorial service for Tran held at Santa Ana College on Wednesday, said Laurie Weidner, spokeswoman for the Rancho Santiago Community College District, which governs Santa Ana College.

Weidner repeatedly emphasized to FoxNews.com that no public funds would be used for the scholarship.

But Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif., whose district includes the taxpayer-funded Santa Ana College, says that isn't quite true — because the scholarship diverts resources from Americans in need of education funds...

Radio Station's Giveaway Angers Immigrant Groups (Columbus, Ohio - May 28, 2010)

Immigrant groups are asking a local talk-radio station to apologize for promoting a Phoenix giveaway that it launched after Columbus' mayor suspended city travel to Arizona to protest its new immigration law.

WTVN-AM (610) promoted the giveaway as a trip to Phoenix "where Americans are proud and illegals are scared."

The contest, which ended last night, was designed to capitalize on the maelstrom kicked up by Mayor Michael B. Coleman's decision, said WTVN program director Mike Elliott.

It was the most popular the station has had, he said. About 5,000 people entered the drawing for round-trip airfare to Phoenix, hotel accommodations, a "few pesos" and the opportunity to "spend a weekend chasing aliens and spending cash in the desert."...

Border Visit Boosts Resolve For Immigration Reform In Ohio

BISBEE, Ariz. — “It’s worse than the last time I was here,” said Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones.

He was summing up a three-day tour ending Tuesday, May 25, of Arizona, including part of the U.S. border that sees roughly half of the arrests of those trying to enter the country illegally.

It’s unknown how small of a fraction that is of those who actually make it.

The trip strengthened his resolve and that of state Rep. Courtney Combs in calling for Ohio’s local law enforcement to get increased powers to enforce immigration laws, as they may soon under Arizona’s new law...

Thomas Paine Vs. Illegal Immigration

One of my favorite celebrities from the early days of the tea party movement -- before Republicans pandered to it, unsure what Glenn Beck was doing out there -- was Bob Basso, a motivational speaker who dressed up as Thomas Paine and spoke in high-falutin' language about American principles. A video of Basso-as-Paine even opened Fox News's all-day coverage of the first April 15 tea parties.

Via the Minuteman Project, I see that Basso is still at it. His new focus: illegal immigration.

Illinois All Kids Health Care

As I was looking around for the, "not so obvious political news," I came upon Dennis Byrnes' piece in the Chicago Daily Observer regarding the Illinois All Kids Health Care Program that was introduced by our indicted former Governor Blagojevich. It turns out the program's enrollment rolls are 75% illegal aliens. This revelation was made by the Illinois Auditor General, William G. Holland in a recent report. Byrne alludes that the report was "insufficiently noticed."...

The United States Of Arizona

[From AmericanFreePress.net]

By Jim Traficant

Our 50 states are to be the United States of America. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. And, to continue the freedoms we enjoy, our nation must be secured, protected from potential enemies and threats from within—and—without. Quite frankly, those lofty yet pragmatic goals and ideals are not possible without a secure border.

There is no national security without a secure border. Every military strategist knows that. I introduced legislation onto the House floor to secure our borders by relocating troops from overseas to our borders. My legislation provided 10,000 soldiers to be strategically placed and assigned to all our borders, both north and south.

My legislation was vehemently opposed by the Democratic Party. I was labeled a bigot, a racist, every name you can imagine.

I successfully passed the amendment in the House—but the “party” and the Senate killed it every year.

The truth is, the security of our borders was not politically expedient as much as the catering to and solicitation of a growing minority Hispanic vote. Both parties want to recruit this new political base, another minority vote, this time even bigger than the black vote. In fact, black Americans are once again pushed to the back of the bus.

Politics won out ever national security. Now Arizona is the target of all the “nobles” who claim to abhor the actions of Arizona.

What a bunch of phonies and hypocrites. I titled this column “The United States of Arizona” because Arizona is doing what the United States of America should be doing. Shame on you, Congress. Legislators should hide their faces. Americans are under attack and are being killed on our borders, and our government has not only turned its back, but is encouraging it by the failure to respond. Let’s get off this immigration lingo, the key word here is “illegal”—not “immigration.”

Who are these illegals? Are they simply “poor people” looking for a better life? Or are they drug smugglers, robbers, terrorists and freeloaders? The facts are clear: They are all of these. However, there’s no way of knowing exactly who and what they are, because our border is wide open.

My God, America could be systematically penetrated by a sophisticated, powerful entity before we even knew it. This is insane and absolutely dangerous. Thank God Arizona has acted. I hope the officials there stand their ground. Arizona is helping the American people in every state, in spite of the scorn and ridicule it is facing.

Let’s look at the facts that support the actions of Arizona:

There have been millions of illegals crossing our borders with little or no interdiction. Narcotics have flooded our borders. American landowners have faced costly damages and death.

The people who live within 75 miles of the Mexican border have been terrorized for years. They have pleaded with the federal government to help protect their lives and property, to no avail.

One rancher testified that “up to 1,200 illegal immigrants” go across his ranch every day. They steal his vehicles. They destroy his fences. They leave trash and destruction. He testified that he had “found 17 dead bodies,” and nobody helped him.

Another land owner testified that drugs are daily shipped across his ranch in a sort of “military-type operation.” He stated there’s a “point man” with a machine gun in front with guards fully armed a half-mile behind guarding their rear. He stated that these “narcos” are violent and will kill anyone who gets in their way.

Another testified that two illegals came on his property who were forced to carry drugs. One was shot in the arm, but escaped after delivery. His “associate” wasn’t as lucky—he was killed. These drug smugglers force “runners” to carry the drugs across the border, then often kill them to avoid detection.

It’s gotten so bad that federal prisons are bulging with over 40 percent illegal immigrants. Think about it: Who’s paying to feed them, clothe them, provide medical care? Are we crazy?

Some 80 percent of our law enforcement who are murdered are killed by illegal immigrants. These are violent terrorists. Get back at me!

Arizona Sing-A-Long: Read Immigration Law!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6qEQ-KnitQ

SecureTheBorderAZ May 21, 2010Two weeks ago, Governor Jan Brewer took President Obama to task for making Arizonas unsecured borders and illegal immigration crisis a laughing matter. However, since then, Washingtons comedy of errors has grown far worse, with top cabinet officials admitting that they havent even read Arizonas new immigration law. Broken borders are not a laughing matter, but the failure by Obamas trusted officials to read Arizonas law before commenting and condemning it is laughable. Read the law for yourself at: www.SecuretheBorder.org.
Rhode Island Lawmaker Files Bill That Follows Arizona Immigration Law

PROVIDENCE –– State Rep. Peter G. Palumbo, saying that he’s “fed up,” and “we’re all under attack” by illegal immigrants, has filed a bill mirroring a controversial Arizona law that is considered the toughest immigration legislation in the country.

Palumbo’s bill, like the Arizona law, gives local police more authority to question and arrest illegal immigrants. It makes failure to carry immigration documents a state crime, and requires police to question people “where reasonable suspicion exists” that the person is unlawfully in the United States. The bill, H 8142, also targets people who hire illegal immigrants, or who knowingly transport them...

State Rep. Mike Moran of Brighton was rear-ended by a suspected illegal immigrant this week. The suspect was wearing a Mexican costume at the time of the crash where he slammed into Moran at 60 mph.

A Hard Life On The Border: Sheriff, State Rep. Visit Cochise County, Arizona

Arizona county is hotbed for illegal immigration along U.S.-Mexico boundary.

COCHISE COUNTY, Ariz. — For more than a century, people have come to this arid expanse of land seeking their fortunes. Some found it; many others discovered hardship and danger.

In the 1800s, it was prospectors seeking silver. Cochise County is the home of Tombstone, a boomtown known best for legendary lawmen and daring gunslingers.

Today, it is the scene of a stream of immigrants crossing over illegally from Mexico, with which the county shares an 82-mile border.

“Fifty percent of all the illegal immigrants that are apprehended every year are coming through southern Arizona, through the Tucson sector (which includes Cochise),” said Carol Capas, spokeswoman for the Cochise County sheriff’s office.

Some seek a better life for their families. But local Arizona authorities say many bring with them drugs and violence — a return to lawlessness.

“Violent crime has spilled over into the United States,” Capas said of the raging drug war in Mexico.

Hamilton, Ohio, is 1,786 miles away from Bisbee, the Cochise County seat. But it’s no less a hotbed of sentiment over illegal immigration.

This week, Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones and State Rep. Courtney Combs, R- Hamilton, who are advocating for immigration reform in Ohio, will see first-hand the place where dashed hopes, desperate dreams and violent ambitions cross into this country: The U.S. border...

Tea Party Rally Calls For Senate Amendment On Illegal Immigrants

QUINCY — More than 100 Tea Party activists rallied Friday night to demand that the state Senate pass an amendment barring illegal immigrants from receiving public benefits, weeks after the measure narrowly failed in the House.

Amid American flags and signs saying ‘‘Tea Partiers for common sense,’’ activists crowded into a modest hall decorated with silk flowers and party lights, and said lawmakers should reflect the voters’ will.

An independent poll this month found that 70 percent of Massachusetts voters — including most Republicans and more than half of the Democrats — support the GOP proposal that failed in the House a few weeks ago. Only 17 percent opposed it, and the rest were unsure, according to the poll by Rasmussen Reports.

‘‘Wake up America. We’re here,’’ state Representative Jeffrey D. Perry, the Sandwich Republican who sponsored the House measure and is now running for Congress, told the standing-room-only crowd at the American Legion Post 95, to applause. ‘‘I really thought that the folks in Washington and Beacon Hill had heard us. ... But they have not heard.’’

The debate over illegal immigration in Massachusetts was reignited after Arizona passed the strictest immigration law in the nation last month. Critics railed against the Arizona measure, including the Boston City Council, which passed a resolution to cut business ties with Arizona.

But the Arizona law also inspired critics of illegal immigration to raise their voices. Though the Rasmussen Reports poll suggested that Massachusetts voters would not favor such an extreme measure, on Friday the crowd applauded the law and said the Bay State should take steps to protect citizens as well...

Rape Suspect Deported 4 Times

EDMONDS, Wash. – The man accused of raping a woman behind an Edmonds grocery store has been deported at least four times in the past 15 years, reports KIRO Radio.

An officer responding to a woman's cry for help Sunday night found 46-year-old Jose Madrigal on top of the woman and arrested him.

According to court documents, the woman told police that Madrigal had followed her and offered her $35 for sex, but she said no. She said Madrigal then forced her into the bushes on the north side of the store and raped her.

Documents say Madrigal told police "Sometimes we have control in our brains, but we make mistakes."

The 28-year-old Edmonds woman was treated at a hospital.

Snohomish County prosecutors have charged Madrigal in district court with second degree rape. He is also is being held for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.
State Rep Wants To Bring Arizona Immigration Law To Michigan

A local lawmaker is hoping to bring the new immigration law passed in Arizona - and possibly its controversy - to Michigan.

Last week, Dist. 33 State Representative Kim Meltzer announced she is drafting legislation that would allow officers to ask Michigan residents for proof that they are legal immigrants if they are pulled over.

"It's not a dig against immigration, immigrants or foreigners, it's about illegal immigrants and our public safety," she said. "We're looking at legislation that enforces legal laws already."...
