Raul Benitez-Maranon

NEW FRANKLIN — Police are trying to sort out why a man shot a Canton cab driver 10 times, killing him Sunday evening.

The shooting occurred after Jerry Laury, who drove for Yellow Cab, dropped off a fare at an apartment building in the 5100 block of S. Main Street in this southern Summit County community. Police have arrested the cab rider, Raul Benitez-Maranon, 27, who apparently was staying at the apartment building.

Witnesses told police that a man fitting Maranon’s description stood next to the cab and fired a gun into the window. The shooting occurred at about 5:45 p.m.

Gary Guenther, chief investigator for the Summit County Medical Examiner’s office, said the 61-year-old Laury was shot 10 times in his head and chest. Laury died at the scene.

Police arrested Maranon minutes after the shooting. He is being held in the Summit County Jail after being charged with aggravated murder.

Although Maranon is using the S. Main Street address, police aren’t certain he lives there. Police Chief Daniel G. Davidson said officers believe Maranon is a Mexican national and are investigating to determine how he entered the country.

“He’s not a confirmed U.S. citizen,” Davidson said...[Full Article]

Illegal Aliens and Crime: Statistics not on Obama's side

Examiner

President Barack Obama's opponents -- especially those working for the Border Patrol and in law enforcement -- claim the recent change in immigration policy is meant to seal his Latino voting base, especially those who are suspected of being legal or illegal aliens who are fraudulently voting in U.S. elections.

Obama's opponents -- especially those working for the Border Patrol and in law enforcement -- claim the whole change in immigration policy is meant to seal his Latino voting base, especially those who are suspected of being legal or illegal aliens who are fraudulently voting in U.S. elections.

"This... [is] more of the 'wait until they kill, rape, beat or molest someone here in America, then we'll deport them' logic. Any victims want to step up to the plate so they can make sure an illegal alien becomes a "felon", making him deportable under the Obama and Napolitano rules? Brilliant strategy. They say they'll deport "gang members" as well. We all feel so much safer now. The illegal alien cheerleaders (Raul Grijalva, Luis Gutierrez, etc.) will love this new strategy. Those of us who actually have to put our lives on the line and enforce the laws? Not so much," according to a statement by National Border Patrol Council, Local 2544...[Full Article]

Barack Obama Cannot Get Congress To Pass Amnesty For Illegal Immigrants So Now He Is Just Going To Ram It Down Our Throats Any Way That He Can

End of the American Dream

If you are an illegal immigrant and you have not been arrested for committing a crime, the odds that you will ever be deported have now gone way, way down. With the Republicans in control of the House of Representatives, Barack Obama knows that he simply is not going to be able to get amnesty for illegal immigrants passed by Congress. But instead of giving up, Obama has decided to ram amnesty for illegal immigrants down our throats any way that he can. The head of the Department of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano, has announced that there will now be a case-by-case review of all deportation cases involving illegal immigrants. Those involving "criminals" will be prioritized and almost all the rest will be thrown out. In essence, this is "backdoor amnesty" for illegal immigrants and it also represents a stunning admission by the Obama administration that it is simply going to refuse to enforce our immigration laws. Illegal Immigrant Arrested For Allegedly Making Fake IDs

An illegal immigrant is in custody, accused of making fake identification to other illegal immigrants.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Onofre Munoz Jimenez, 34, of Mexico, is charged with forgery, a fifth-degree felony.

Officials said a joint criminal investigation began after a suspect provided fraudulent identification to a trooper during a traffic stop in Madison County.

Investigators determined where the suspect had bought the fake ID and a search warrant was issued.

Investigators then located more than $12,000 in cash and equipment used to make fraudulent Ohio driver licenses, resident alien cards and Social Security cards.

Jimenez is being held at the Franklin County Jail. If convicted, he could face up to a year in prison, a $2,500 fine and deportation.

Officials said Jimenez is also facing possible federal charges.

Ruling over Pa. town's immigration law vacated

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A federal appeals court has vacated its ruling that declared a northeastern Pennsylvania city's illegal immigration law to be unconstitutional, setting the stage for a new round of arguments.

The move by the Philadelphia-based 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals last Friday was expected after the U.S. Supreme Court ordered it to take another look at Hazleton's Illegal Immigration Relief Act.

The appeals court had blocked Hazleton from enforcing regulations that would deny permits to business that hire illegal immigrants and fine landlords who rent to them, saying they usurped the federal government's exclusive power to regulate immigration.

The Supreme Court threw out the appeals court ruling in June after the justices upheld a similar employer-sanctions law in Arizona...[Full Article]

Tricked into Harvesting Pot? Ohio Feds Call Case Example of Cartel Sponsored Drug Production

Fox News Latino

Did they know what they were doing or was it a part of cartel sponsored drug production in America's heartland?

Federal prosecutors are wrapping up their case against 11 men charged with cultivating thousands of marijuana plants. The state's former top cop called it an example of cartel-sponsored drug production, but defense attorneys say many of defendants were day laborers who were tricked into harvesting pot.

All 11 have pleaded guilty and seven have received sentences ranging from a year to 18 months in prison. U.S. District Judge Thomas Rose was scheduled to sentence three more defendants Friday in Dayton, with a final sentencing Aug. 17...[Full Article]

Falfurrias Woman is Killed After Car Crashes Through Bedroom

FALFURRIAS - A Falfurrias woman is dead after police say a vehicle full of illegal immigrants drove through her house. Family members identify that woman as 70-year-old Bertha Gonzalez.

Police say Gonzalez was asleep when a Chevy Suburban crashed through her bedroom around 2:00 Saturday morning. They say the driver of that car and his seven passengers are all illegal immigrants.

According to officers, it all started when they pulled over the Suburban for a traffic stop. They say the driver suddenly took off at speeds up to 70 miles per hour and didn't stop until he crashed into the house on Trevino and Center Street.

Gonzalez's body was thrown into her backyard and she died immediately. Family members say she has six children and between 20 and 30 grandchildren. Many of those family members drove down to Falfurrias to say goodbye to the woman who is loved by many, "She just loved everybody, she was a beautiful person," said Gonzalez' only daughter, Cecilia Molina, "If he only knew what he took from us."

Falfurrias Police Chief, Eden Garcia says the incident left the whole town in shock. "I'm without words. Really no one deserves to die that way. Nobody does. That's the hardest part for us here," he said.

Police say they caught all eight of the illegal immigrants who were in that suburban. Six of them are recovering at local hospitals. They say the driver of the car will face several charges including murder, transporting illegal aliens, and evading arrest.
