California to Issue Driver's Licenses to Illegal Immigrants

The California state Assembly on Thursday voted in favor of a bill that would permit the Department of Motor Vehicles to issue driver's licenses to illegal immigrants who are eligible for work permits under a new policy handed down from the Obama administration. The bill is on its way to Governor Jerry Brown’s desk to be signed into law.

Fox News reports, “Democratic Assemblyman Gil Cedillo [pictured above, next to photo of California's state capitol] of Los Angeles said he wrote AB 2189 to make roads safer, and allow young immigrants to drive to school and work.”

The bill passed in California’s Assembly by a vote of 55-15 after it passed in California’s Senate on Wednesday by a vote of 25-7.

The only other states to issue driver’s licenses to undocumented immigrants are New Mexico, Utah, and Washington.-[Full Article]

31 Unlicensed Drivers Cited, Vehicles Impounded at Vista Checkpoint

The Vista Sheriffs Station conducted a Drunk Driving/License checkpoint Saturday night on Civic Center Dr. right in front of city hall. The large parking lot there came in handy for the 41 vehicles that were impounded and towed. 31 of the impounds were for unlicensed drivers, almost all of them Latino illegal aliens based on 3 hours of direct observation (see photos at left).

The checkpoint also caught and arrested 7 people for under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to a Sheriff's press release. Their vehicles were also seized in accordance with California law...[Full Article]

Immigration: State to require proof for driver's licenses again

One of only three states where illegal immigrants can still obtain driver’s licenses, Washington is moving to tighten the rules.

Beginning Monday, the state Department of Licensing will require people without a Social Security number who are seeking a new driver’s license to provide proof they actually live here.

While a few in that category might be U.S. citizens and legal residents, most are illegal immigrants.

Washington stands with New Mexico and Utah in issuing driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants. And officials say an alarming number of out-of-state residents without Social Security numbers have been obtaining licenses here in recent years – this year more than double what it was three years ago...
