Help limit a Lame Duck session tomorrow!

September 22, 2010

Tomorrow, Thursday, September 23rd, the House will vote on another Lame-Duck session resolution offered by Rep. Tom Price (R-GA).
Price’s second attempt to prevent stealth legislation from getting through a lame-duck will be slightly different than his resolution the last time around.
The new resolution states:
That the House of Representatives pledges not to assemble on or between November 2, 2010, and January 3, 2011, except in the case of an unforeseen, sudden emergency requiring immediate action from Congress, and that the consideration of any of the following matters does not constitute an unforeseen, sudden emergency:
[including]
  • Any legislation pertaining to the Immigration and Nationality Act.
Anti-English provisions could easily be added to a bill that proposes changes to the Immigration and Nationality Act during a lame-duck, so we want to make sure that doesn’t happen!
Limiting a lame duck session will decrease the risk of Congress attempting to jam through stealth legislation.
Call and email your representative now and tell them to support the Price "Limit the lame-duck resolution" by voting YES TOMORROW!

Man charged with enticing child

Three men are currently being held for violations with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) stemming from an incident involving a minor at Red Bay’s midget football league game this past weekend.

Amner Obel Lopez Figueroa, 23, whose residence is listed as being Guatemala, has been charged with enticing a child for immoral purposes and interference with custody, both Class C felonies.

Figueroa has also been charged with public intoxication along with Adelson Picon Diaz, 26, Guatemala, and Antonio Chavez Carrillo, 30, Guatemala.

According to authorities, the alleged incident took place about 7:30 p.m. when the seven-year-old victim was playing in an area of the stadium during the game.

She was approached by Figueroa who hugged her and asked her to come inside the bathroom with him, officials said.

The victim told her parents about the incident and authorities were immediately notified, officials said...

Illegal aliens indicted on kidnapping and weapons charges (Columbus, Ohio - September 10, 2010)

A federal grand jury in Columbus, Ohio, indicted six illegal aliens on 14-counts alleging conspiracy, hostage taking and gun crimes for abducting a woman and her two-year old daughter in Columbus on December 14 and 15, 2009.

The suspects were captured by members of the Office of Homeland Security Investigations, the Columbus, OH, Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

"HSI will continue to work with its local and federal partners to remove dangerous illegal aliens from our communities," said Special Agent-in-Charge Brian Moskowitz. "These charges illustrate that commitment."

The federal indictment charges each of the six defendants with one count of conspiracy to commit hostage taking, hostage taking, six counts of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, and six counts of possession of a firearm by an illegal alien...

Senate voting on DREAM Act today

The DREAM Act, S.729 will grant amnesty to illegal aliens who entered the U.S. as minors and meet certain educational requirements or serve in the military. In particular, the bill grants immediate legal status to illegal aliens who have merely enrolled in an institution of higher education or have received a high school diploma. And, while S.729 conditions the ultimate granting of legal permanent residence status upon finishing two years at an institution of higher learning or two years in the military, the bill allows Homeland Security, “in the Secretary’s discretion,” to waive these requirements in their entirety upon the showing of hardship.
We need your help!!! Call your Senators NOW and tell them to vote NO on the DREAM Act! Tell them:

* You want immigration ENFORCEMENT, not another amnesty;
* Amnesty legislation rewards those who broke U.S. immigration laws and only encourages more illegal immigration;
* The DREAM Act unfairly allows illegal alien students to tap federal and state benefits, when those benefits are desperately needed by Americans who are struggling every day to make ends meet.

Secret White House meeting pushes for support of DREAM Act

A Friday afternoon telephone conference was held by Cecelia Munoz and Stephanie Valencia, members of Obama’s staff, urging participants to reach out to community organizers and encouraging them to call their lawmakers acknowledging their support for the DREAM Act (AKA amnesty).

The 20-minute call was an off-the-record conversation that was billed as a “no media or blogger” conference call.

The topic of discussion was the DREAM Act. The Development Relief and Education for Alien Minors that would provide a road to citizenship for young illegal aliens if their parents brought them into the country before age 16 and they attend college for at least two years, join the U.S. military or be under the age of 35.

During this six-year conditional period, immigrants would not be eligible for federal higher education grants, but they would be able to apply for scholarships, student loans and work study grants...

Undocumented immigrants cost citizen taxpayers

...Studies by two conservative groups have found American citizens pay a big price because of the illegal immigrants. The Center for Immigration Studies, a Washington-based group advocating tougher immigration policies, reports that the amount illegal immigrants pay in taxes leaves a deficit of more than $10 billion dollars a year when compared with what they cost the federal, state and local governments.

A recent study by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) found that the government spends between $100 and $113 billion in outlays for services and benefits to illegal aliens and their families. About one of every five dollars of that comes out of federal coffers and the other four out of state and local pocketbooks. The study estimates the federal government gets back in taxes about a third of the $20-some billion of its costs while state and local governments get back about five percent of the approximately $85 billion that the undocumented immigrants cost American citizens.

The single largest outlay — $52 billion annually — is for the education of the children of illegal aliens, a cost born mostly by local and state governments. In Florida, the annual cost is estimated to be $1.7 billion, more than half of that for children who are citizens born in this country to undocumented parents.

If the illegals were evenly distributed in every state, the average cost to each citizen household to help them would be $1,117 a year. But since the largest number of undocumented immigrants is concentrated in half a dozen states like Florida, the cost to individual citizens in those states is more...

Colin Powell Supports & Promotes Illegal Immigration

Powell says illegal immigrants do his home repairs

(AP)

WASHINGTON — Former Secretary of State Colin Powell says illegal immigrants do essential work in the U.S. and that he has firsthand knowledge of that — because they fix his house.

A moderate Republican, Powell urged his party on Sunday to support immigration generally because those who come from abroad are, in his words, "what's keeping this country's lifeblood moving forward."

Powell said a path to legal status should be offered to illegal immigrants because they do work that needs to get done.

At his own house, he said on NBC's "Meet the Press," illegal immigrants are always around when he needs work done.

He did not specify whether he hired them directly or they showed up with contractors.

A Route to Citizenship in Defense Bill
Legislation Offers Illegal Residents Chance to Become Americans Through Military Service or College; Foes Call It Amnesty

LOS ANGELES—David Cho, an honor student and leader of the UCLA marching band, plans to join the U.S. Air Force after he graduates in the spring—if Congress lets him.

Mr. Cho is among the potential beneficiaries of the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors bill—informally known as the Dream Act—that would give some illegal immigrants a shot at becoming U.S. citizens.

The bill would grant six years of legal residency to high-school graduates who have lived in the U.S. continuously for five years and arrived by the age of 15. They would become eligible for citizenship if they attend college or serve in the military for two years during the legal residency period.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) said this week that he planned to attach the Dream Act to the defense-authorization bill next week.

To supporters, the Dream Act would encourage young people to join the military and attend college, two laudable goals.

To opponents, the bill is tantamount to an amnesty program for children whose parents broke U.S. immigration laws.

Sen. Jeff Sessions (R., Ala.) believes passage of the Dream Act would entice more people to sneak into the U.S. "When you take a policy that says you are going to reward people who have entered our country illegally with a guaranteed pathway to citizenship, and with billions of dollars in financial aid or benefits they would not otherwise be entitled to, what message are we sending?" Sen. Sessions said...

Napolitano to Disillusioned Latinos: 'Your Voice is Your Vote, Man'

ABC News' Devin Dwyer reports: Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano told a group of Latino leaders from across the U.S. today that responsibility for inaction on a comprehensive immigration reform bill falls squarely on Republicans and that the Latino community must turn out in November to vote their displeasure.

“Your voice is your vote, man,” Napolitano said at a Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute event. “Your vote is the currency this town lives on.”

The appeal follows months of mounting discontentment within the Latino community over what has been seen as President Obama's failure to make progress on comprehensive immigration reform early in his first term...

Outrage: Illegal Alien Felon Makes 'Living' Filing Hundreds of Frivolous Lawsuits (under ADA)

StandWithAZ | September 13, 2010

http://www.StandWithArizona.com Crack dealer, car thief, Social Security fraudster, ILLEGAL ALIEN. Yet he is 'making a living' suing hundreds of small business owners under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Alfredo Garcia, who became paralyzed after getting drunk and falling out of an avocado tree, goes around all day - every day - looking for the most minor violations of ADA (or just filing false claims) in order to extort cash. How does an illegal alien felon even have standing to sue American citizens? Why was he never deported? Why is he not deported now? God only knows. It is just another story of madness in a nation which has totally lost its mind on illegal immigration. No other nation on Earth would ever put up with this.

Obama’s Backdoor Amnesty

The Obama administration has begun implementing a backdoor amnesty through selective enforcement of U.S. immigration law.

A leaked internal memorandum from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS) -- part of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) -- entitled “Administrative Alternatives to Comprehensive Immigration Reform” revealed a series of “deferred action” plans to sidestep legislative requirements.

Rep. Gus Bilirakis (R-Fla.), ranking Republican on House Homeland Security Committee’s oversight subcommittee, spoke with HUMAN EVENTS about these recent actions -- or orders for inaction.

“It’s a separation of powers issue,” Bilirakis told HUMAN EVENTS in an exclusive interview. “I think they feel that they don’t have the votes in both chambers to pass amnesty. This should go through the legislative process.”...

ICE Proposes New Policy That Would Let Illegal Immigrants Go Free

Illegal immigrants who get pulled over by police for traffic-related offenses will be set free if a proposed change in Immigration and Customs Enforcement policy is approved.

The proposal has come under fire by county sheriffs near the Arizona-Mexico border — including some who spoke out against SB 1070, the controversial Arizona law that directs law enforcement officials to question people they suspect are in the country illegally. A federal judge has effectively put that law on hold, pending resolution in federal court of the Department of Justice's claim that it is unconstitutional...

Arizona State Senator Russell Pearce Discusses Illegal Immigration, SB 1070, And Elections (Interview)

MESA, Arizona — On Tuesday, Aug. 24, The Latin America News Dispatch sat down with Arizona State Senator Russell Pearce to discuss the controversial immigration law, SB1070, of which he was the lead author.

At the time Pearce was up for reelection, but the incumbent senator ran uncontested, predictably coming away with 96.56 percent of the vote (a write-in candidate garnered 3.44 percent).

Though the most controversial portions of 1070 were largely blocked by a federal judge at the end of July, at least 20 states are pursuing similar legislation. Pearce vowed that he would continue his fight against what he calls the “illegal invasion” from its front in Arizona, just as the growing discontent in America will continue, he warns, with inevitable consequences in November...

Criminal alien who killed nun issued federal work permit

Whenever there is a criminal incident involving an illegal alien, it appears more is done to conceal the immigration status of the suspect than to investigate the actual crime at hand.

According to a public-interest group that investigates public corruption, the drunken illegal immigrant who killed a nun in Virginia last month was not only released by federal authorities after previous arrests, he was issued a special Homeland Security work permit after two criminal convictions...

No-Pants Rapist Identified, Hunted: Police

Police say they know the identity of the man who choked and raped a 22-year-old woman near a Center City bus stop Sunday and ran away, leaving his pants behind.

A local and federal manhunt is on for Alberto Isaac Navarrete Suarez -- wanted for rape and attempted murder, police say.

Suarez, who ran away from the crime scene in his underwear, left a pair of pants with a fake ID in the pocket. Though the Mexican ID had a different name and finger print identification, police were able to identify Suarez’ true identity by leads that came from the finger print belonging to a man deported several years ago, according to officials.

Philadelphia Police and the FBI have issued local and federal arrest warrants for Suarez...
