Seven companies notified of potential debarment for unlawful employment practices

WASHINGTON - U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) notified seven companies that they will be considered for debarment from federal contracting because each has been found to be unlawfully employing persons without employment authorization.

Illegal immigrants are 'cheap labor' for some, costly to rest

It is easy to see why illegal immigrants are attractive to employers. These are generally good, hardworking people who will quietly accept minimum wage (or below), don't generally get health or other benefits, and if they complain they can be easily fired. For some employers it is an abused form of labor. Even minimum wage is attractive to workers from countries whose standard of living is a fraction of ours.

In the early hours of Sept. 11, 2008 the Ramsey County Sheriff’s office received a call of a domestic disturbance at the Viking Feeders pig farm located outside Edmore, N.D.

The person calling spoke broken English, so a translator who knows Spanish was picked up to lend assistance.

When the deputy arrived he was told that one of the workers living there had hit another with a boot in the head several times.
