Help limit a Lame Duck session tomorrow!

September 22, 2010

Tomorrow, Thursday, September 23rd, the House will vote on another Lame-Duck session resolution offered by Rep. Tom Price (R-GA).
Price’s second attempt to prevent stealth legislation from getting through a lame-duck will be slightly different than his resolution the last time around.
The new resolution states:
That the House of Representatives pledges not to assemble on or between November 2, 2010, and January 3, 2011, except in the case of an unforeseen, sudden emergency requiring immediate action from Congress, and that the consideration of any of the following matters does not constitute an unforeseen, sudden emergency:
[including]
  • Any legislation pertaining to the Immigration and Nationality Act.
Anti-English provisions could easily be added to a bill that proposes changes to the Immigration and Nationality Act during a lame-duck, so we want to make sure that doesn’t happen!
Limiting a lame duck session will decrease the risk of Congress attempting to jam through stealth legislation.
Call and email your representative now and tell them to support the Price "Limit the lame-duck resolution" by voting YES TOMORROW!

Man charged with enticing child

Three men are currently being held for violations with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) stemming from an incident involving a minor at Red Bay’s midget football league game this past weekend.

Amner Obel Lopez Figueroa, 23, whose residence is listed as being Guatemala, has been charged with enticing a child for immoral purposes and interference with custody, both Class C felonies.

Figueroa has also been charged with public intoxication along with Adelson Picon Diaz, 26, Guatemala, and Antonio Chavez Carrillo, 30, Guatemala.

According to authorities, the alleged incident took place about 7:30 p.m. when the seven-year-old victim was playing in an area of the stadium during the game.

She was approached by Figueroa who hugged her and asked her to come inside the bathroom with him, officials said.

The victim told her parents about the incident and authorities were immediately notified, officials said...

Illegal aliens indicted on kidnapping and weapons charges (Columbus, Ohio - September 10, 2010)

A federal grand jury in Columbus, Ohio, indicted six illegal aliens on 14-counts alleging conspiracy, hostage taking and gun crimes for abducting a woman and her two-year old daughter in Columbus on December 14 and 15, 2009.

The suspects were captured by members of the Office of Homeland Security Investigations, the Columbus, OH, Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

"HSI will continue to work with its local and federal partners to remove dangerous illegal aliens from our communities," said Special Agent-in-Charge Brian Moskowitz. "These charges illustrate that commitment."

The federal indictment charges each of the six defendants with one count of conspiracy to commit hostage taking, hostage taking, six counts of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, and six counts of possession of a firearm by an illegal alien...

Senate voting on DREAM Act today

The DREAM Act, S.729 will grant amnesty to illegal aliens who entered the U.S. as minors and meet certain educational requirements or serve in the military. In particular, the bill grants immediate legal status to illegal aliens who have merely enrolled in an institution of higher education or have received a high school diploma. And, while S.729 conditions the ultimate granting of legal permanent residence status upon finishing two years at an institution of higher learning or two years in the military, the bill allows Homeland Security, “in the Secretary’s discretion,” to waive these requirements in their entirety upon the showing of hardship.
We need your help!!! Call your Senators NOW and tell them to vote NO on the DREAM Act! Tell them:

* You want immigration ENFORCEMENT, not another amnesty;
* Amnesty legislation rewards those who broke U.S. immigration laws and only encourages more illegal immigration;
* The DREAM Act unfairly allows illegal alien students to tap federal and state benefits, when those benefits are desperately needed by Americans who are struggling every day to make ends meet.

Secret White House meeting pushes for support of DREAM Act

A Friday afternoon telephone conference was held by Cecelia Munoz and Stephanie Valencia, members of Obama’s staff, urging participants to reach out to community organizers and encouraging them to call their lawmakers acknowledging their support for the DREAM Act (AKA amnesty).

The 20-minute call was an off-the-record conversation that was billed as a “no media or blogger” conference call.

The topic of discussion was the DREAM Act. The Development Relief and Education for Alien Minors that would provide a road to citizenship for young illegal aliens if their parents brought them into the country before age 16 and they attend college for at least two years, join the U.S. military or be under the age of 35.

During this six-year conditional period, immigrants would not be eligible for federal higher education grants, but they would be able to apply for scholarships, student loans and work study grants...

Undocumented immigrants cost citizen taxpayers

...Studies by two conservative groups have found American citizens pay a big price because of the illegal immigrants. The Center for Immigration Studies, a Washington-based group advocating tougher immigration policies, reports that the amount illegal immigrants pay in taxes leaves a deficit of more than $10 billion dollars a year when compared with what they cost the federal, state and local governments.

A recent study by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) found that the government spends between $100 and $113 billion in outlays for services and benefits to illegal aliens and their families. About one of every five dollars of that comes out of federal coffers and the other four out of state and local pocketbooks. The study estimates the federal government gets back in taxes about a third of the $20-some billion of its costs while state and local governments get back about five percent of the approximately $85 billion that the undocumented immigrants cost American citizens.

The single largest outlay — $52 billion annually — is for the education of the children of illegal aliens, a cost born mostly by local and state governments. In Florida, the annual cost is estimated to be $1.7 billion, more than half of that for children who are citizens born in this country to undocumented parents.

If the illegals were evenly distributed in every state, the average cost to each citizen household to help them would be $1,117 a year. But since the largest number of undocumented immigrants is concentrated in half a dozen states like Florida, the cost to individual citizens in those states is more...

Colin Powell Supports & Promotes Illegal Immigration

Powell says illegal immigrants do his home repairs

(AP)

WASHINGTON — Former Secretary of State Colin Powell says illegal immigrants do essential work in the U.S. and that he has firsthand knowledge of that — because they fix his house.

A moderate Republican, Powell urged his party on Sunday to support immigration generally because those who come from abroad are, in his words, "what's keeping this country's lifeblood moving forward."

Powell said a path to legal status should be offered to illegal immigrants because they do work that needs to get done.

At his own house, he said on NBC's "Meet the Press," illegal immigrants are always around when he needs work done.

He did not specify whether he hired them directly or they showed up with contractors.
