Arizona Clears Strict Immigration Bill

Arizona lawmakers on Tuesday passed one of the toughest pieces of immigration-enforcement legislation in the country, which would make it a violation of state law to be in the U.S. without proper documentation.

It would also grant police the power to stop and verify the immigration status of anyone they suspect of being illegal.

The bill could still face a veto from Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer. A spokesman for Ms. Brewer said she has not publicly commented on the bill. Ms. Brewer, a Republican, has argued for stringent immigration laws...

Washington (CNN) - Two-thirds of Americans don't want to make it easier for illegal immigrants to become citizens, even though a slight majority is sympathetic towards their plight, according to a new poll.

A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Sunday indicates that 66 percent of Americans say the U.S. should not make it easier for illegal immigrants to become citizens, with 33 percent disagreeing.

But the overall principle remains unpopular."...

Well, a year has come and gone and he has nothing to show for any accomplishment on immigration and specifically border security. Over 1,000 illegal immigrants flood across our southern border with Mexico every day...
Illegal Immigrants Can File Complaints For Wages

Ordinarily, when the U.S. Department of Labor launches one of its awareness programs for worker rights, it barely gets notice.

But when Labor Secretary Hilda L. Solis was in Chicago recently to promote the new campaign she stirred some unexpected controversy.

At the heart of the labor department's "We Can Help" campaign is educating workers on how to file complaints to recover wages owed from employers.

Using Spanish/English bilingual public service announcements, the department says it wants to emphasize that wage and hour laws apply to "all workers in the United States, regardless of immigration status," according to a labor department press release.

So there's the rub -- "regardless of immigration status." Solis emphasized that in Chicago:

"The nation's laws are for the protection of everyone who works in this country," Solis said...
