From a pretty much "Sanctuary City" already, going broke and not understanding the reasons, Dayton is contemplating becoming even more friendly to the illegal population; expecting our state and federal tax dollars to support this endeavor along with the sacrifce of the safety of legal Ohioans.
One proposal dealt with making Dayton more immigrant friendly to get more people to move to the city.
33. Immigrant Friendly City. Later this year, there will be a report from
the Human Relations Council’s immigrant friendly task force. The
Dayton region is 96th out of the top 100 regions in the percentage of
foreign-born residents. A vibrant community needs more immigrants
and they can be a source of growth. I look forward to considering
and implementing many of its recommendations.
Ohio's Immigration Law Under Fire From Both Sides
(June 23, 2011)

CINCINNATI — Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones has sent a letter to Gov. John Kasich urging him to pass a tough immigration policy, similar to the laws they have in Arizona.

But a group of more than a dozen religous leaders, also from southwest Ohio, believes that state laws need to be crafted to welcome and support immigrants.

They are pushing for a "fair and equitable" immigration policy, reported ONN's Lot Tan on Thursday.

"Parishes have dealt with undocumented parents, who after being cited by local officials for a minor infractions of the law, have been torn apart from their families and deported to countries where their children can't follow," said Rev. Dennis Schnurr, Archdiocese of Cincinnati...[Full Article]

Illegal immigrant charged in Gwinnett teen's crash death

An illegal immigrant has been charged with vehicular homicide for allegedly causing the death of a Gwinnett County teen in a high-speed crash, Channel 2 Action News reports.

Jhony Velasquez Castillo – whose name was reported as Jhony C. Velasquez at the time of the March 30 accident-- was speeding north on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in his 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee when the accident happened, police told Channel 2.

A 2006 Chrysler 300 coming in the opposite direction turned left into the path of Castillo’s vehicle at 1st Avenue in unincorporated Buford. The Jeep slammed into passenger side of the Chrysler and pushed the car into two other vehicles stopped at a stop sign on 1st.

A 15-year-old passenger of the Chrysler, Johnathan Campbell of Buford, was killed. He was a freshman at Lanier High School. The car’s driver, Johnathan’s 17-year-old sister Rebecca, and Castillo were taken to Gwinnett Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries...[Full Article]

Is Obama aiding illegal aliens to vote for him?

President Barack Obama and his Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolititano are planning to make it easy for hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants to enter the United States in 2012. The new rules were released last Friday without much media fanfare.

According to Neil Munro at The Daily Caller, the “prosecutorial discretion” memo says officials need not enforce immigration laws if illegal immigrants are enrolled in an education center or if their relatives have volunteered for the US military.

“They’re pushing the [immigration] agents to be even more lax, to go further in not enforcing the law,” said Kris Kobach, Kansas’ secretary of state. “At a time when millions of Americans are unemployed and looking for work, this is more bad news coming from the Obama administration… [if the administration] really cared about putting Americans back to work, it would be vigorously enforcing the law,” said Kobach, who has helped legislators in several states draft local immigration-related laws...[Full Article]

Federalism Guarantees States Key Role in Controlling Immigration

Critics of state and local government action on immigration fail to keep in mind one simple but critical point: The states have these rights.

It is preposterous to take the position that, short of federal action or the commission of a crime, governors and mayors are constitutionally powerless to deal with illegal immigrants within their states and cities. The argument that state and local governments must incur enormous fiscal and societal costs, asserting that all aspects of immigration (legal or illegal) are entirely the purview of the federal government, is constitutionally suspect.

The Ninth and Tenth Amendments firmly established the federalist system of government by first stating that the rights contained in the Bill of Rights should “not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people” and adding the corollary limiting provision that “powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution…are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”...[Full Article]

Brunswick Police: speeding driver’s next trip may be abroad
(Brunswick, Ohio - June 16, 2011)

BRUNSWICK - A 24-year-old Mexican national in the country illegally is facing deportation after being pulled over for speeding on Interstate 71 at 1:17 p.m. June 8.

The man was reportedly driving 92 miles per hour in a 65 mph zone.

The man had no driver’s license, reports said, but was in possession of an Ohio driver’s license belonging to a Medina woman. He told officers that he had found the license and police determined that the man was probably not lying — as the location given corresponded with where the license was reported lost...[Full Article]

Federal judge blocks Indiana's new immigration law

(06-24) 18:27 PDT Indianapolis (AP) --

A federal judge blocked parts of Indiana's new immigration law Friday, saying the law was the latest failed effort of states to deal with a primarily federal issue.

U.S. District Judge Sarah Evans Barker granted a request for an injunction blocking two provisions of the law, which was approved this year by Republicans who control the Statehouse.

Barker wrote in the ruling that Indiana's law — as well as laws enacted in several other states — is an attempt to deal with what is seen as a failure of the federal government to deal with illegal immigration. She said the two provisions of Indiana's effort to deal with immigration "have proven to be seriously flawed and generally unsuccessful."...[Full Article]

7 additional Ohio counties to benefit from ICE program to enhance identification and removal of aliens convicted of a crime

CANTON, Ohio – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Tuesday began using a federal information-sharing capability as part of the Secure Communities program in Auglaize, Carroll, Columbiana, Erie, Holmes, Medina and Mercer counties to help federal immigration officials identify criminal aliens in state prisons and local jails by running their fingerprints against federal immigration databases when they are booked into the system.

"Secure Communities enhances public safety by enabling ICE to identify and remove criminal aliens more efficiently and effectively from the United States," said Secure Communities Acting Assistant Director Marc Rapp. "As we expand ICE's use of biometric information sharing nationwide, we are helping to keep communities safe and ensuring the integrity of our immigration system."

With the expansion of the use of biometric information sharing to these seven counties, ICE is using this capability in 84 Ohio jurisdictions. Across the country, ICE is using this capability in 1,417 jurisdictions in 43 states and one U.S. territory. As a result of ICE's use of this enhanced information-sharing capability, which began in October 2008, ICE has removed more than 82,000 criminal aliens — more than 29,000 of whom were convicted of felonies such as murder, rape, kidnapping and the sexual abuse of children. ICE continues to work with its law enforcement partners across the country to responsibly and effectively implement this federal information sharing capability and plans to reach complete nationwide deployment by 2013...[Full Article]

Turn off the illegal-alien jobs magnet

World Net Daily

by Tom Tancredo

Rep. Lamar Smith, R-Texas, has introduced a bill immigration-enforcement patriots have been demanding for over a decade, the Legal Workforce Act. Why are some people calling it a bad bargain, or even worse, a sellout?

Smith's bill, H.R. 2164, mandates the use of the federal E-Verify program by all employers across the nation. The bill is not perfect, but on balance, it's a giant step forward and deserves our support.

Not only is a federal E-Verify mandate a giant leap forward in itself, but the Smith bill greatly improves the E-verify program by requiring cooperation among all federal agencies to eliminate a gaping loophole. The present E-Verify program detects only fake Social Security numbers, not valid numbers being used by multiple persons. The existing law actually encourages identity theft. H.R. 2164 fixes that problem...[Full Article]

AZ Sheriff: More Troops on Korean Border than U.S.-Mexico Border

Arizona Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu, a leading voice in the fight to secure the Arizona border with Mexico and in combatting illegal immigration, is wondering why there are nearly 28 times more troops on the border between North and South Korea than there are on the U.S.-Mexico border. President Obama has extended the time National Guard troops will stay on the border, however, the number of troops provided to secure the border is still not substantial...[Full Article]

NCLR Funding Skyrockets After Obama Hires Its VP

A Judicial Watch investigation reveals that federal funding for a Mexican La Raza group that for years has raked in millions of taxpayer dollars has skyrocketed since one of its top officials got a job in the Obama White House.

The influential and politically-connected National Council of La Raza (NCLR) has long benefitted from Uncle Sam’s largess but the group has made a killing since Obama hired its senior vice president (Cecilia Muñoz) in 2009 to be his director of intergovernmental affairs.

Ignored by the mainstream media, Judicial Watch covered the appointment because the president issued a special “ethics waiver” to bring Muñoz aboard since it violated his own lobbyist ban. At the pro illegal immigration NCLR, Muñoz supervised all legislative and advocacy activities on the state and local levels and she was heavily involved in the congressional immigration battles that took place in the George W. Bush Administration.

She also brought in a steady flow of government cash that’s allowed the Washington D.C.-based group to expand nationwide and promote its leftist, open-borders agenda via a network of community organizations dedicated to serving Latinos. Among them are a variety of local groups that provide social services, housing counseling and farm worker assistance as well as publicly-funded charter schools that promote radical Chicano curriculums. Judicial Watch published a special report on this a few years ago...[Full Article]
