Georgia's Tough New Immigration Law Drives Undocumented Immigrants to Leave

On the heels of the Georgia legislature's passage of an immigration law that seeks to make life significantly tougher for undocumented immigrants, many who fear deportation are leaving -- or considering leaving -- the Peach State.

Those who are looking to go elsewhere include undocumented immigrants and their families who harvest the state's famous sweet onions.

The new law -- the toughest state measure on immigration in the nation -- penalizes people who harbor or transport undocumented immigrants in some situations and allows law enforcement officers to check the immigration status of suspects who can't show an approved form of identification. Using false documents to get a job -- a common practice among undocumented immigrants -- will be a felony once the law goes into effect in July...[Full Article]

President says Georgia's immigration bill a mistake

ATLANTA -- President Barack Obama has waded into the debate over illegal immigration in Georgia, strongly criticizing the state’s Arizona-style legislation on immigration enforcement.

In an interview with WSB-TV, Obama said of House Bill 87: “It is a mistake for states to try to do this piecemeal. We can’t have 50 different immigration laws around the country. Arizona tried this, and a federal court already struck them down.”...[Full Article]

14 Arrested, 2 Savannah McDonald’s Shut Down Following Immigration Sting

New York Injury News

Savannah, GA — A nine-month investigation by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has led to the temporarily closure of two Savannah McDonald’s restaurants and the arrests of 14 illegal immigrants. The round-up occurred around lunchtime at the McDonald’s off Ogeechee Road at Berwick, and the one at Ogeechee Road and Chatham Parkway, reported WTOC.

ICE officials reported that some of the McDonald’s managers stole American’s identities, and then sold them to the prospective and illegal McDonald’s employees who needed to acquire American citizenship.

“These U.S citizens unknowing to a certain extent have been victimized, their credits have been potentially impacted, their good names have been tarnished,” said ICE Special Agent in Charge Jason Gialanella to WTOC.

Fourteen people were arrested, with five of them facing federal criminal charges for stealing identities. The rest were charged for being in this country illegally...[Full Article]

Lightning strikes twice at Cobb County courthouse

According to state and federal laws, public business entities are to use the E-Verify system to check an alien's eligibility to work within the US. Another "Inconvenient Truth" About Illegal Immigration...Disease

Last month, 50 students and teachers at Lilburn Middle School in Gwinnett County, Ga., a suburb of Atlanta , tested positive for tuberculosis exposure, and four have been confirmed to have an active case of TB.. While that news may be shocking to most, it is nothing new. In October 2009, about 200 students at the county’s Norcross High School underwent testing, after TB was discovered at the school.

Of course, Atlanta is a known ‘sanctuary city’ for illegal aliens...
