DEA, BCI and Local Law Enforcement Seize Thousands of plants in two Counties

SEP 24 -- (COLUMBUS, Ohio) — A crew of 11 Mexican nationals, including the alleged ringleader, were arrested yesterday as the result of a three-month-long investigation into outdoor marijuana megafarms. More than 2,500 marijuana plants were seized from these massive outdoor grow operations. Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray and U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Special Agent in Charge Robert L. Corso made the announcement today.

“It’s rare for investigators to make arrests in these kinds of marijuana growing operations, and to have arrested 11 individuals surprised even the most seasoned of investigators,” said Attorney General Cordray. “I cannot overemphasize the importance of successfully and safely arresting the alleged ringleader of this operation and his crew. It could be instrumental to further understanding and shutting down this cancerous practice that has been spreading to Ohio.”...

PRESS RELEASE: September 26, 2010

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Several Founding Members of The Grassroots Rally Team of Ohio, which has been actively combating ILLEGAL immigration in Ohio (www.grassrootsrallyteam.org) since May 2007, traveled to Columbus on Sept 22 to present the first Award of Appreciation from the Rally Team to Ohio State Representative Courtney Combs (R-Oh 54 district, Butler County) for his sponsoring legislation in Ohio that would protect Ohioans from the adverse effects of ILLEGAL immigration.

Of particular note is Ohio HB 184 which Representative Combs sponsored in May of 2009 and would require all Ohio employers to use the E-Verify system to check the legal status of employees. The bill has not moved out of committee since that time, and will expire at the end of this 128th Ohio General Assembly. Representative Combs told the Rally Team that he would be reintroducing this bill in January 2011.

Representative Combs also told the 6 assembled Rally Team members that he continues to work on legislation for Ohio which will be comparable to the Arizona SB 1070 bill.

On Wednesday, Arturo Lopez, 18, was convicted of abducting and raping his foster mother in Henrico County, last April.

The 55-year-old victim told the jury of her pain, and how she can longer trust anyone, ending her long service as a foster mother, saying: “I don't have it in me emotionally to move over for someone else.”

The jury recommended a 20-year sentence for the abduction and 10 years for the rape. Lopez will be sentenced in November.

On April 9, the woman called police to report that her foster son had just raped her at knife point. The victim was able to leave the house and call 911, after telling Lopez that she had to get to work.

Lopez had been living on the streets of Richmond for just three days, when he was placed in the foster home in 2009. He turned 18 just five days before the brutal assault.

The Mexican national told detectives he simply walked across the border and took a bus to Richmnond, Va.

California Legislature to Expand Illegal Alien Benefits

Dream Act Would Allow Access to Financial Aid, Grants Unless Vetoed by Governor

WASHINGTON, Sept. 24 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Nearly three months into the fiscal year, the California legislature and Gov. Schwarzenegger are finalizing a budget agreement that calls for massive cuts in state programs to close the state's projected $19 billion budget gap. While most Californians will be feeling the pain – and lots of it – the California legislature not only spared, but expanded benefits to at least one political interest in the state: Illegal aliens.

Senate Bill 1460 and Assembly Bill 1413, collectively -referred to as the California DREAM Act, were approved by the legislature and are headed to Gov. Schwarzenegger's desk. By some estimates, these bills could provide over $38 million in state benefits to help illegal aliens attend California colleges and universities. This assistance comes on top of an estimated $88 million a year California taxpayers continue to provide to illegal aliens in the form of in-state tuition benefits, despite the fact that a state appeals court has ruled the policy unconstitutional.

If Gov. Schwarzenegger signs the California DREAM Act before the Sept. 30 deadline, illegal aliens would be eligible to receive taxpayer funded grants and assistance to offset the ever increasing costs of attending public colleges and universities in California. The bill also expands the definition of who is eligible to receive in-state tuition subsidies. Currently, students must have attended three years of high school in California to qualify. Under SB 1460, anyone who completes three years of secondary school, and earns a degree, in California is eligible for in-state tuition. Secondary schools include trade and adult schools...

Immigration Reform Group Plans To Protest Mexican Consulate Event

Instead of seeing students and buses at Concord High School, passers-by will likely see protesters this weekend.

“It is going to be a protest and it's going to be a protest directed at the Concord High School," said James Johnson, the president of NC For Immigration Reform and Enforcement (NCFIRE), a group that is calling for tougher immigration laws.

He said members of his group and of a group called ALIPAC will gather Saturday to protest the decision to let the Mexican consulate set up a mobile office on the school’s campus this weekend.

The event is one of many the consulate puts on to help Mexican citizens in the United States obtain Mexican identification cards and passports. Johnson said he thinks the events should be illegal.

“In our opinion, handing out this Matricula consular card and the Mexican passports leads to aiding and abetting illegal alien activity," he said...

Canada to use biometrics to secure its borders

Canada Immigration has announced a new five-year plan to institute a secure, biometrics-based border entry system to protect the nation from illegal immigrants.

According to Karen Shadd, spokeswoman for the federal immigration office, Visa applicants in Canada will be required to provide biometric information in the form of fingerprints and a photograph to acquire a digital Visa, the Canadian Visa Bureau reports.

Shadd told the news source, "biometric verification significantly reduces the chance that one individual could pose as or be mistaken for another individual. Biometrics will bolster Canada’s existing measures to reduce identity fraud and enhance the safety and security of Canadians."

According to the Toronto Sun, the new program, which could show dividends as early as next year, will put Canada's border security in line with other nations such as the United States and UK.

Greg Cox of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police told the news source that the biometric program will reduce fraud and enhance the law enforcement office's ability to screen criminals applying for Visas.

Recently, India, Costa Rica and Gambia have announced new plans to use biometrics to protect their borders from foreign nationals who may enter the country illegally. Movements to use biometrics in immigration and border patrol are spreading across other parts of the globe as well, with New Zealand instituting a fingerprinting policy for foreigners entering the country.

Mass. delays signing up for immigration program
US wants cops to send them arrestees' fingerprints

BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston) - Gov. Deval Patrick's public safety administration has sat for a year on a request by federal immigration authorities to sign up for a controversial new program aimed at finding and deporting immigrants with serious criminal backgrounds, preventing local police outside of Boston from taking part in it, a FOX Undercover investigation has found.

The U.S. Bureau of Customs and Immigration asked state officials in September 2009 to sign a memorandum of agreement they say is needed to activate the program, known as Secure Communities, across Massachusetts. But that agreement remains unsigned, meaning no police department in Massachusetts except Boston can access the program, federal officials say. Boston police joined the program as part of a pilot initiative...

Companies embarrassed when illegal alien is arrested for child identity theft

Orem, Utah police arrested a 26 year old man on September 20, 2010 for purchasing and using a child’s Social Security number to obtain employment.

The child’s parents had learned that their child was a victim of identity fraud while seeking assistance from Utah Workforce Services which manages a wide range of programs including financial (cash), Food Stamps and/or child care assistance programs.

According to press reports, Martin Estrada-Urcino, 26, told police that he purchased the number eight years ago when he illegally entered the United States. This is such a common practice that the Social Security Administration estimates that 75% of illegal aliens use fraudulently obtained Social Security numbers which is a felony.

Mr. Estrada-Urcino subsequently used the fraudulently obtained number to unlawfully get jobs. He defrauded his employers by professing to be legally in the United States and he committed perjury on his I-9 forms (felony). Finally, he committed identity fraud by using another person’s Social Security number and this is a major felony under Utah law.

An investigation revealed that he had earned approximately $10,000 from Layton Roofing Company and $2,400 from Brady Roofing in 2010 under the child’s Social Security number.

The fraudulent use of a Social Security number can cause extremely serious harm to the owner of the number. The person’s good name will be ruined. Her credit may be destroyed and she may be saddled with arrest records. Medical records can be compromised with life threatening consequences.

A child may be denied financial aid and scholarships seriously damaging her educational opportunities and she may be denied internships and jobs based on records wrongfully attached to her social security number. In some cases, critically required medical care may be denied...
