COLUMBUS — Taking aim at undocumented foreign workers, Senate Republicans on Wednesday, March 24, voted for a pair of bills that give local police and sheriffs a greater role in enforcing federal immigration laws.
The Senate voted largely along party lines 21-11 in favor of a bill sponsored that directs the state attorney general to seek an agreement with federal officials to allow specially-trained local police and sheriffs to enforce federal immigration laws...
KETTERING, Ohio -- Police said a man who they believe is an illegal immigrant from Mexico is facing charges nearly two years after he allegedly raped a woman.
Officers in Kettering said the man went missing not long after he raped the woman inside her apartment.
Now, the man is being held in the Montgomery County Jail after officers found him in Michigan.
Michael Burke of the Kettering Police Department said of the case and the delayed arrest, “If it’s attached to your name or your personal information, then it’s not going to go away.”
Investigators said in July 2008, Paulino Ocana, now 25, raped a woman inside her apartment in the 3200 block of Gracemore...

The state should go after employers who hire them, curb taxpayer-funded benefits, deploy the National Guard to help the feds at the border and penalize 'sanctuary' cities.
The United States, and California in particular, has been built by immigrants who legally crossed our borders in search of a brighter future. For generations, these legal immigrants have made immeasurable contributions to creating a unique and vibrant California. As Americans and Californians, we are right to welcome people from all over the globe when they obey our laws and are willing to play by the rules.
Illegal immigration is another matter entirely. With the state budget in tatters, millions of residents out of work and a state prison system strained by massive overcrowding, California simply cannot continue to ignore the strain that illegal immigration puts on our budget and economy. Illegal aliens cost taxpayers in our state billions of dollars each year. As economist Philip J. Romero concluded in a 2007 study, "illegal immigrants impose a 'tax' on legal California residents in the tens of billions of dollars."...
Those arrested during the raid of four McDonald's in Scottsdale, Tempe and Mesa were being held on suspicion of identity theft.
PHOENIX -- A raid targeting illegal immigration led to the arrests of 21 Phoenix-area McDonald's workers Friday, and authorities were still seeking 30 other employees as part of their investigation.
Those arrested during the raid of four McDonald's in Scottsdale, Tempe and Mesa were being held on suspicion of identity theft. It will take more time to determine whether any of them are illegal immigrants as officials suspect, said Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
Deputies also searched a mansion in the tony Phoenix suburb of Paradise Valley owned by Richard Coulston, who owns the restaurants, Arpaio said. Coulston was not arrested.
Deputies could be seen on local television stations swarming around Coulston's mansion, and McDonald's workers were shown crying and hugging each other.
It's a shame that Friday's arrests had to happen at the fast-food restaurant, which is "more than just a business," Arpaio said.
On Friday, in Butler County, OH, Alex Ramirez, 14, appeared before Juvenile Court Judge Ronald Craft and heard that he will be tried as an adult for the alleged rape and robbery of a 64-year-old Liberty Township woman.
The victim’s family was in court for the proceeding and testified to the deterioration of the woman’s health since the particularly violent attack. They reported that she has simply lost her will to live. Barely eating and drinking.
Her son said: “All she wants to do is sit and stare out a window.”
According to detectives with the Butler County sheriff’s office, armed with a pellet rifle, Ramirez entered his victim’s home in the early morning hours of Jan. 11. He then demanded money, beat and raped the woman, finally forcing her to drive him to an ATM...
BEAVER, Ohio—Three illegal immigrants were arrested early Sunday after a one-vehicle crash in Pike County.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS from the Pike County sheriff’s office.
Deputies responded to a one-vehicle injury crash on the 3400 block of Adams Road at about 6 a.m. Sunday.
Deputies found an unoccupied vehicle and a male in a nearby ditch.
Two additional males were found hiding in and behind a nearby residence.
Twenty-three-year-old Omar Julian Higaredo, 31-year-old Gerardo Brijido Salinas and 35-year-old Alfredo Silva Ortiz were in possession of forged identifications and further investigation revealed the three are in the country illegally, according to the sheriff’s office...
The group America's Voice, which has insisted that immigration reform is right around the corner for a solid year now, is continuing the drumbeat with this new spot to air in Washington, D.C. which says, among other things, "It's time to end illegal immigration."
"Leadership isn’t about scoring points. It’s about both parties working together to solve tough problems," says the narrator, who returns to the well-honed talking points of "comprehensive immigration reform": "securing our borders, cracking down on employers who cheat on payroll taxes and exploit cheap labor and requiring workers in the US illegally to pass background checks, study English and pay taxes before becoming full US citizens."
With Chuck Schumer and Lindsey Graham co-sponsoring legislation and a huge rally on the issue Sunday, there's at least a hint of momentum.
WASHINGTON, March 23 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As President Obama and the congressional leadership revive efforts to grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens living in the U.S., a new report from the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) concludes that such policies would severely undermine the interests of American workers. Amnesty and the American Worker also finds that record levels of immigration during the 2000s – both illegal and government mandated – have added new workers to our labor force faster than our economy has been able to create new jobs.
At a time when some 25 million Americans are either unemployed or involuntarily working part-time, amnesty legislation would legally entitle the estimated 7.5 million illegal aliens in our workforce to keep their current jobs, and compete with distressed American workers for any new jobs that are created. Proposed legislation, billed as "comprehensive immigration reform," would also increase the flow of legal immigrants who would compete for jobs in the U.S., while offering no concrete initiative for stemming the tide of new illegal immigration...
This report examines the efforts by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) to smear the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) and, by extension, the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) and NumbersUSA.
With no serious analysis, the SPLC in late 2007 unilaterally labeled FAIR a “hate group.” That poisonous designation became the centerpiece of a “Stop the Hate” campaign launched by the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), also known as La Raza, to call on Congress and the media to exclude FAIR from the national debate on immigration.
The campaign gathered strength as newspapers across the country reported that FAIR had been “designated a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.” While the news stories generally included FAIR’s denial of the charge, thereby providing a semblance of balance, the designation’s taint lingered. The SPLC, presenting itself as a non-partisan, public-interest watchdog, never acknowledged — and no reporter ever disclosed — that the center was an active ally of the NCLR in the campaign.
The evidence presented here demonstrates that the SPLC became a propaganda arm of the NCLR. The SPLC’s decision to smear FAIR was the work of a kangaroo court, one convened to reach a pre-determined verdict by inventing or distorting evidence. The “Stop the Hate” campaign would more accurately be labeled as a campaign to “Stop the Debate.”...

Sergio Estrada-Gomez, 25, faces charges of attempted second-degree murder of a public official and first-degree aggravated assault of a police officer.
Estrada-Gomez, who has been arrested on domestic violence and traffic charges in Denver and Adams County, was deported in 2007 but returned illegally, ICE told 9News.
Estrada-Gomez is suspected of shooting Deputy Alexander Kondos three times: in his left ankle, right thigh and chest. The bullet that hit Kondos' chest struck a bulletproof vest.
Kondos was treated and released from Denver Health Medical Center after the shooting.

Although President Obama says creating jobs is his top priority, his failure to enforce immigration laws at worksites has led to job losses for American workers. That is the message of a new television ad campaign by Californians for Population Stabilization (CAPS) and allied organizations concerned about unemployment.
"The United States is suffering its highest unemployment rate in decades, yet President Obama has cut jobsite enforcement of immigration laws by 60 percent. How seriously should we take his claims that he is focusing on this issue?" asked Diana Hull, the President of CAPS.
The ads note that over 8 million jobs are held by foreign workers who are in this country illegally and ask Americans to call the President to complain...

“It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to, than I have ever known.”
From “A Tale of Two Cities,” Sydney Carton’s words, as he rode the tumbrel to the guillotine, came to mind on reading the latest statistics on what open borders has done to a Republican Party that altruistically embraced it.
The Center for Immigration Studies reports that, since 1980, some 25.2 million immigrants have entered legally and been granted permanent status with “green cards” to work and become citizens...
Was accused of trying to help flout immigration laws

Lorraine Henderson had been suspended from her job as Boston area port director for Customs and Border Protection. (Josh Reynolds for The Boston Globe)
A former Department of Homeland Security official once in charge of keeping some of New England’s key ports secure from illegal immigration was found guilty yesterday of deliberately encouraging her Brazilian housekeeper to illegally stay in the country.
“I’m stunned,’’ said Lorraine Henderson, 52, of Salem, who could face up to five years in prison for her conviction. She declined to comment further and was consoled by about 10 relatives and friends, some of whom cried as they embraced her.
Henderson, who rose through the ranks of the US Customs Service after starting as a clerk at age 17, testified during the six-day trial that she did nothing wrong. She was suspended without pay from her $140,000-a-year job as Boston area port director for Customs and Border Protection after her arrest 15 months ago...

ALIPAC is issuing the following responses to today's 'March For America' which is attempting to place over 100,000 illegal immigrants and their supporters on the Washington Mall to demand Comprehensive Immigration Reform Amnesty from DC Lawmakers.
"We are dubbing this Amnesty march the March Against America.", said William Gheen, President of ALIPAC.
"A large majority of Americans want comprehensive immigration enforcement, instead of comprehensive AMNESTY" -- William Gheen.
"People should consider calling Janet Napolitano's Homeland Security immigration hotline at (866) 347-2423 to ask why Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is giving so many illegal aliens a free pass to protest in Washington today?" -- William Gheen.
"These marchers are advocating the overthrow of American laws, sovereignty, and the self-governance of American citizens who want our immigration laws adequately enforced, to be a significant deterrent to illegal immigration." -- William Gheen.
"The fact that so many illegal aliens can gather upon our American capitol, with massive corporate sponsorship, and without any fear that President Obama and Napolitano will enforce our existing immigration laws and it shows that our immigration system has been paralyzed by special interests." -- William Gheen.
"Americans need to quickly organize to oppose this new push for Comprehensive Immigration Reform Amnesty. We want Americans to sign up to support our Tea Party Against Amnesty events across America , to be held April 15-17. People can sign up to show their support and take action to stop AMNESTY at www.AgainstAmnesty.com" -- William Gheen.
We support NumbersUSA 's "Stop Amnesty In Four Days" efforts found at www.NumbersUSA.com and encourage our supporters to watch the LIVE broadcast from Roy Beck today starting at 2pm.
"On Monday, we need to lead and organize the public backlash. Most Americans will be very angry and dismayed, when they learn so many illegal aliens and their supporters have gathered in Washington to overthrow our existing immigration laws. We want all of our national supporters on the phones to Congress on Monday!" -- William Gheen.
"Comprehensive Immigration Reform Amnesty will lead to tens of millions of new illegal immigrants entering the country in the next decade due to America 's lack of immigration enforcement credibility." -- William Gheen.
